Hi Everyone. I found this very large, heavy axe head that looks like it's Connecticut pattern, but has a rounded poll which I havent seen before on Connecticuts.

No brand on it except for what looks either as number 7 or an arrow. It is 4 lbs 12oz and dimensions are 8" by 7".

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

We need to see top down view of the eye and size of the poll behind the eye, but I suspect it is just a Tasmanian pattern

(For others to correct. Not sure I know what I think I know) While there were a few Australian makers of this pattern, most were from outside. It's interesting, though, because Australia specifically excluded US makers from importing for "a while" -- don't know how long or any more details than that. So Kelly, for instance, started making axes in Canada (St. Catherine) at least partially to get around the problem. I have a Swiss-made tassie, I bought in Australia. It seems only US makers were blocked.
