Does anyone own or know anything about this knife? I like the way it looks but am wondering if I should drop the money on it.

I liked the knife - I had last year's model with the "shark-tooth" tip - but I thought that it was similar in many ways to my BM 710. (Size, weight, lock type...)

Except that I think the 710 is better, so I kept reaching for it rather than the SOG.

Finally sold the SOG.

But I do think for the street price the PE is a lot of knife - excellent tight lockup, very smooth action, really nicely made for the money. (Made in Seki Japan - though I'd check if they're still making them there. I see that SOG is now making quite a few of their knives in Taiwan.)

Thanks for the thoughts Rifon... now I am going to have to go check out the 710 that you mentioned... :)

I've carried a Pentagon Elte II for approximately 6 months as EDC. It didn't let me down but I don't carry it anymore. To summarize my experiences:

Positive:
- secure and fast lock (Arc Lock)
- knife can be opened and closed in a lightning
- decent ergonomics
- reliable blade / strong tip
- would serve well as a weapon
- Sog's Aus 8 is ok in my book

Negative:
- frequently recurring blade play
- partial serrations didn't prove themselves useful
- serves poorly as a user (as to be expected from a dagger)

If your looking for a weapon that can be deployed fastly, I can recommend the Pentagon Elite II without hesitation. For everday use I'd recommend something else (e.g. Manix, Cuda Maxx Bowie)

Completely agree. I had both Elites and sold the big one. Will probably sell the smaller one also. Great for self defense (or offense if needed) but not useful for much else because of blade shape.

However, SOG now has a drop point (small and large) on the same frame that provides all the positives (Arc lock, etc) and adds a blade shape that is now useful for everyday chores. I think the new knives are also assisted opening but can't remember for sure.

Regards

Duh... I had not even thought of the blade shape being a problem for an EDC knife... I got caught up in the "gee it looks cool" mode. Thanks for the thoughts guys! Also thanks for the links! I think you have put me off the SOG but now I have other things to go look at that you mentioned. :)

Dohp! I was afraid of that... looks like it is going to cost me about twice what I could have gotten the SOG for... figures... :) That of course does not mean it is not going to happen...

Maybe you didn't read all of my post. SOG also has the same handle/lock, etc. of the Elite with a new drop point blade. I would prefer another knife (BM 710 was mentioned and is always a winner). But if you like the SOG, you can get it in a drop point. Just wanted you to know.

I've got the SOG Spec Elite, which is the handle of the Pentagon Elite with a more useful blade shape. I like mine, it has replaced my PE and competes with my Endura as an EDC.

i had a pentagon elite for a while a few yrs ago, wasnt crazy about it but nothing really wrong with it, i like the long blade FWIW, if ya can get a deal on 1 wouldnt be too bad imho. i swapped it for somethijng/another.

of course there is lotsa stuff i like better.........

Yeah I read that, but have not been able to find the thing... I need to go look harder. :)
