Considering a GEC #22 Magnum / Looking for Opinions on EDC

I'm looking for input from those who own at least one. I'm a bit concerned about the size but since my hands aren't all that large, it may not be a problem. Use would be EDC in the front pocket of my Carhartts for whatever situation it's called for but I keep thinking that it may be a bit small for EDC. I own several other models of GEC and am familiar with most of their models. Thanks for your input.

What uses will it see? Any heavy-duty activities? If so you may want to stick with one of your others or have one of the others and use the 22 Mag as your primary, but with the larger one to back it up on larger tasks.

I carry a Peanut or Pemberton as my #2 about 99% of the time. In normal daily activities the small knives can do just about anything in reality. That being said, I do always have a 3.5"+ in my right front pocket.

I have just ordered a #22 in smooth buckhorn bone to alternate with my antique yellow jig bone version just as i alternate my ebony wood #09 with the stag version. The #22 is slightly larger than the #09 but for my uses either is just fine, like Arizonarancher if i think i may need a bigger blade i will slip one of my bigger knives in my pocket. By the way i have fairly large hands with a touch of arthritis.

I carry mine extremely often. Its real small, but i like it. Covers most things

I've owned a couple Magnums (gave one away as a gift) and like the pattern a lot. I also own a couple Pembertons and like those a lot too. I find that they cover most of my day to day needs without any trouble. Best of luck with your decision.

I love the gunstock pattern, wish GEC would make a large or atleast a medium size.

Does the 22 have halfstops?

:) :) :)

I think it's a great little knife. I find the angular Gunstock shape allows for a better grip than there might otherwise be on a small knife, the blades are a useful size, and it fits the bill for some of my UK EDC situations. Plus it's a looker

Jack - your post made me smile :) and your photo is terrific. GEC could/should use it as an advertisement. Thanks!

I have two of them -- buckthorn bone and ebony. I'm carrying the ebony today, in fact.

On paper you look at that 2 5/8" and think of how tiny that sounds. In-hand it's at least as much to hold onto as a Case peanut (being a negligible smidgen shorter, and considerably "deeper" from spring to front) and the main blade is near enough to the same length as to not bear mentioning.

The only criticism I have for it is that the back of the tang stands well clear of the handle when closed. You'll feel the tang of the pen blade under your finger when you're using the main blade & vice-versa. The pointiness of the tang can be remedied with a stone easily enough, but it still sticks up. (The peanut does this too, but to a much lesser extent.) So it might not be comfortable for extended use, like whittling.

It makes a perfect coin-pocket knife, and the F&F is superb. I think it makes a fine EDC, but then I work in an office. :)

Schatt & Morgan - File and Wire for 2014 is a gunstock. Bone or stag in two different sizes. For your consideration.
