Considering a Hyper

Hi everybody,
I am a big fan of the Boker CLB designs. At this point I have a Trance, Wharcom, and Subcom CE (and the close relative, the Lava). Seems like there are a lot of new models coming out and I am feeling the itch to pick one up.

I am drawn to the Hyper for a couple reasons - I like the size, low-rider clip, ti-coat, swedge, frame-lock with G-10 opposite scale, etc. My only hesitation is the blade shape. I generally prefer a blade with a straighter cutting edge, like wharncliffe or similar. I am tempted to pick up the Hyper to try it out, but I am interested in any input on the general utility of the Hyper for typical daily cutting tasks.

It's hard to resist picking up these knives. I'm considering the Edit fixed blade also, and I will definitely be grabbing a Keycom.

Any comments on the Hyper would be welcome. Especially, how does it compare to a Trance for typical EDC tasks. Anyone notice a difference between 440C on the Hyper (made in China?) and AUS-8 on the Trance?

Thanks,
Nick

I really like the blade on my Hyper. The slight recurve on the serrations makes cutting a breeze for me. Like the Trance it rides real nice in the pocket but the clip on mine came point down so I changed that right away. Both are great knives IMO. The one plus for me is the tip on the Trance, makes it easier on certain tasks at work for me. Haven't really noticed a whole lot of difference between the 440C and AUS-8 blades. I've used both to cut .010 brass wire at work with no problems at all. I think if you pick one up you will be very pleased with it .

Aloha and mahalo Nick,

Thanks for your kind words regarding my designs with Boker.:o

FWIW, I rotate my HYPER with my Trance DP. The differences are barely noticeable, if at all between the two. Edge holding is about the same, and the Ti-Coat on the HYPER is just damn beautiful as well as highly functional. Living here in the Islands, anything Bead Blasted gets a few "freckles" every now and then, but not so with the HYPER. So far, the HYPER has been kinda "Glock-like" in terms of maintenance, which is a good thing.;)

Oh yeah, about the recurve blade...it is very mild, so during cutting you *should not* notice anything "funky" going on like slipping, sliding, or drift.

Should you get one though, DO change it to tip up carefully, and if ya use the ala Carson Flipper a lot on the Trance, that is about the only thing you will find yourself trying to do with the Hyper.:p

God bless and keep us posted.

PS: Mahalo XD45 and Lycosa!!!
