I have never owned a benchmade. Considering getting a mini bugout and doing a scale swap. Would it be worth it for the price or are there better options in the $150 range? Looking for a dedicated working knife. Want something reliable and sturdy

I looked at those too. I love a good flickable hole but was going to look at something not so in my usual taste. Branch out so to speak

Ok, not sure how i went down the rabbit hole and arrived here, but i think im going to spring for a mini crooked river. Probably not exactly what i need but screw it

I’ve carried a mini grip G10 20CV exclusively until the Bugout came out which I then carried about 90% of the time until the mini Bugout came out which is now my primary carry but admit I do rotate some between these 3. If I could only keep one I confess it would be the mini grip but I’ve never felt disadvantaged having either of the other two in my pocket. Most all of my time is spent around the house, office or suburban environment. When I do play on the water or in the woods I do carry something a little larger and more robust. And I do possess many alternatives.

It boils down to your personal needs, uses and what appeals to you. Practicality, value (to you) and anticipated uses are integral to the selection. But, it’s a lot more fun and satisfying to have a couple of dozen (From $50-$500) in your collection to fondle and admire just for the hobby.

Good luck and more importantly, enjoy the adventure.

Yea im torn. Totally different knives, but the mini crooked river is calling my name

Size wise, how does the regular bugout compare to a tenacious?

I've had both. The Tenacious carried like a brick. The Bugout carries like it isn't there. Blade and overall length about the same.

The Tenacious has 8Cr13 Steel, and the Bugout has S30V.

Bugout is less than half the weight and pocket print, and has twice the steel.

One could argue that the Bugout has the Axis where the Tenacious has a liner lock, but I am equally fond of both locks.

The Tenacious can be had for about a third of the price of the Bugout, which probably steers this choice for many folks.

That is a dandy. It calls lots of people's names I'm sure.

I'd have to spring for the carbon fiber on that one from the BM Custom Shop though, and man is it pricey from there.

Don’t have a Mini Crooked River but I do have the full size. Arguably one of the nicer, better made, aesthetically appealing offerings in the Benchmade lineup. But, it’s a much heavier, beefier option than most anything in a similar size comparison to the others you are considering. It will take up a lot of pocket and you will notice it’s heft. But a great knife and gorgeous in my opinion. The Anthem beats it but that’s another can of worms.........

if you’re looking for something in the size/ weight class of the Bugout/mini /grip In spyderco, check out the Chaparral with carbon fiber grips and XHP.

No i have a lil native for a small slicey knife. Have an elementum and a spyopera. Want aomething different

Do you have your heart set on a BM?

I was going to suggest a Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter.

It is a little bigger then the mini crooked river but you get the sturdy Demko tri-ad lock and don't have to worry about the axis lock spring (a few folks on the forums have had them break). It also comes in orange G10. CS does a good job with sturdy working knives are a great price imo.

Another possibility in your price range. I like the gray/black g10 myself.

I've had a few Mini-Grips and they're excellent for small edc, granted the earlier ones are better as far as f&f goes. The Mini-Bugout I had was disappointing as it was off center and just mediocre in hand, that's a quality control issue but it soured me off of those.

Don't have a Mini Cr but they definitely have that old classy look.

Weirdly I just don't buy any benchmades anymore.
