Considering a Mnandi

I've been thinking about buying a Mnandi as a tax return gift to myself.

I have a small plain sebenza as a user (which I love), but am looking for something a little bit classier for certain occasions. I also can't see myself buying an embellished sebenza, because I don't want to replace the one I have. And there's something that strikes me as odd about putting ornaments on something named "work" :p

So, anyone have any advise or experience with the Mnandi to share? I'm also completely torn as to which inlay to go with. Any ideas?

i like the african blackwood, it looks very nice, bloodwood, and snakewood are also very cool. no matter which inlay you go with, you will like it. :)

My son has one with walnut, I have one with camel thorn. Almost all of the inlays are nice - my personal favorites are snakewood, ironwood and camel thorn. But there are a lot of other choices! On the knife itself, it is a beautiful but very practical tool. It's small, elegant, has great ergos. You can take it (and use it) places where even a small Seb might freak people out. You can even clip it in a shirt breast pocket and most folks will think it's a pen. :D

After a little more research, I think I'm leaning toward Snakewood. It looks like the least expensive of the premium inlays (I think it's the best looking as well). Bloodwood looks pretty good too, and anything with "blood" in it gets brownie points. :)

I thought Snakewood is $25 more than the basic premium woods. I say get a Mnandi because they're one of the best knives out there. The wood is up to you and your tastes.

I have a Blackwood Mnandi and a bark ivory one. I use both at my job. Thing cuts like a laser. The inlays are durable, my Mnandi gets no special treatment. Very nice as are all CRK products.

I have 4 mnandi and absolutely love them. I will take some pics of them and post them this evening for you to see. I have a Bocote; Jigged Madagascar Rosewood; Camel Thorne; Damascus/Cocobolo.

A few years ago I took a shine to the Mnandi knife myself and had seven at one time. My favourite would have to be the Boxelder model as it seemed to look really fresh on the smaller knife.

I remember having a good laugh with a very friendly member called Trane Fan who had a wonderful collection of Mnandis and got his Boxelder one before me and took great pleasure in showing it off to us all here. At that time, they were all plain yellows with some brown grain and knot features. I think the recent ones are getting even prettier with beautiful grains and red highlights.

Here's a Boxelder Full House :D

Mnandi's are pretty cool, I had no idea they was as thick as the others, once I seen a picture that showed how thick the liners and lock are changed my mind that they was purely a gentlemens folder but just as solid as seb's, nice clips too. Look for some pics of the build of one and im pretty sure your like it even more.

IMO the Mnandi is a master piece of modern knife making along with the Sebenza and Small Sebenza.

I saw some really nice ones on feebay recently. Nice Box Elder with red tones in it. I was tempted but I just can justify another Mnandi considering I have a Damascus/Snakewood,S30V/Snakewood and recently got a BG42/Zircote.

He doesn't need to buy from Ebay, He's a CRK dealer

He can have one of each at dealer cost :yawn::yawn: Rickster :yawn::yawn:
