Considering a new Military or para

I've only owned one spyderco over the years, a police that I honestly wasn't too impressed with. I didn't like the the lock and there was no way to adjust the pivot tension.
I have a fairly rounded collection of quality blades now but no spydies and like how the military looks with its thinness and ergonomics.
Which would you recommend for a first time buyer? Military or paramilitary?
Is the only real difference size?

Thanks.

Alrighty, just bought myself a lightly used black on black serrated paramilitary
from a gunforums site, those are great places to find deals sometimes because
most the users aren't into knives so much.
I wasn't really planning to buy one right away but the price was right, $70:D

Now that you have a para, you'll notice other differences, such as the lock. The para has one of the best locks in a folder. I really like the simplicity, strength, and usability of the compression lock. The Millie's liner lock isn't bad, in fact it very good. I just like the security of the compression lock. An added benefit of the compression lock is how smoothly the knife opens and closes. It is easily flicked open, if that kind of thing appeals to you.

On the other hand, the Military's handle fits my hand better and I much prefer how it feels in hand compared to the para. I can't quite find a comfortable grip with the para. Fortunately, this is being addressed on the Para 2.

Good buy on the Para, hope you enjoy it.

I prefer the military. Its carries the same (for me) with a lot better fitting handle (for me) and a 4" blade is a whole different class compared to a 3" blade (to me).

A military with orange handles was the one I was shooting for but the
deal with the Para popped up.

I just bought an orange Military and I have been looking for a short time for one. I think maybe only 600 were made, but they are there. I 've been traded 2 paramilitaries and have ended up trading them off because I perfer the military. If you can't find an orange one the digicam with black blade is is my favorite. It sort of blends in with blue jeans. Make a great edc. good luck.

the orange military was originally a sprint run, but now it is limited production. i have a para and really like it, i think you will like your para a lot.

I have two para millies and one Millie. I prefer the para over the reg. millies because my hand is medium size. Both are great knives

I ran across a Police years ago and it never quite hit it off with me.
This week I got a Military and it most definitely hit it off with me.
Two different knives, IMO. I could never get a decent grip on the Police. The Military fits my hand like a glove.
I already love the Millie, just freakin' love it.
Never tried a Para or even held one. The Military falls within the legal limit where I live so I decided to go with it.
No regrets.

My first one was a black/black SE just like yours. I did not like it at all. I gave it away and bought an orange Military that instanly became my favorite knife. Then in January this year I bought another Para. Odd thing, I love it! It's been my "F it" knife. The one when I don't know which knife I want to carry that day, I just go "F it, I'll take the Para" :D

I'd suggest you wait for the paramilitary 2, its worth the wait for something that looks like a perfect edc knife.

Excellent choice. Either would have been.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Para2 now. Should be out sometime in 2010 according to rumors. Sal listened to our comments and refined the Paramilitary into what I think is a home run. Thank you Sal and Eric.

The paramilitary 2 looks very, very interesting.
The fact that it's going to have a pivot bushing makes it practically
a must buy for me:)
I don't know why more folders don't come with these
