Any suggestions? Considering a small framelock, blade length between 2.5 and 3.25", I'm not in Sebenza income bracket, open to suggestions..... on a seperate note, anyone have experience, opinion on Smith and Wesson "pocket protecter"? Thanks.

I like benchmade's framelock.
For the most part they don't come cheap.
Greco's are considered very well.
Also, Look at the K-Bar Dozier folder.
Good Luck

Ahem, Kershaw Vapor.

about $20 at Walmart, very good buy for the money.

Ahem, Kershaw Vapor II. $25 at Wally World. Slightly bigger than the Vapor but make sure you get one made in Taiwan(it IS Taiwan, right?). Lood guck!

Ahem!!! :)

Ha! I got the biggest Ahem, so there.

For $170 or so, the Buck/Mayo is an AWESOME framelock, near Sebenza quality, arguably a better design, and for half the price. I am very impressed with its smoothness, quality and strength, and at a very reasonable price.

Yeah, I was just going off of what he said about not being in the Sebenza money bracket, even thought the Buck/Mayo is less.

And as far as the Vapor II, here is his request:

blade length between 2.5 and 3.25"

The Vapor II has a blade of 3.5", and I dont know about the other Walmarts but at the one where I am is only part serrated.

Oops!!

I posted some Axis lock blades.

I'm not sure of any inexpensive framelocks that meet your criteria, other than some of the S & W line.

definitely check out the Vapors and the Gerber Paraframe, both at wally world.

I had all three on the counter, and i chose the Gerber. I really like the design, weight, and even the color. It's hair shaving sharp, to my surprise... i took off three different patches! could'nt believe it. Above all, it's Definitely Not going to open in your pocket.

That said, it is not a quick draw knife, but you'll get used to the opening. Hard to beat for $20, but you may find the Kershaw's more to your tastes in the same budget.

The Camillus EDC is an elegant design, non-aggressive for public use, very strong, comes in a variety of steels, and is the production version of my own every day carry, the Darrel Ralph EDC.

Thanks to everyone, some good suggestions. Wasn't even aware of the Gerber. I better start investigating...:)

I have a small vapor , Its a good buy at 20 bucks at wallys ,. I have one and its eraned its keep ! I would put lock tight on some of the screws . Not the one that hold the blade but all the rest. I was forever tightning the screws on it .

if you are on a tight budget i'd recomment the vapor, I use to think "how good could it be for 20 bucks?" but then i handled one that my friend asked me to sharpen and i was very impressed. You'll be hard pressed to find a better knife at that price. I had an EDC before and I did not like it, it was a bit small and the handle material/finish looked kind of cheap and crappy to me. Not to mention the blade was way off centered and the screws stripped when i tried to take it apart (and i don't over tighten either) my friend had the same problem with his EDC too. I'd check out the BM axis look knives too, they are great for around 100 bucks

You can get a good Benchmade Axis lock knife for a good bit less than $100, actually. The Mini Griptilian (555) is about $65. Check Knifecenter.com. That's where I got mine. Nice knife!

I was just looking at the Buck TNT (Mayo design production knife) and that thing is way nice! I love the fact that it uses a blade hole instead of a stud (I can't stand the stud designs). But for $200, I don't think I'll be getting one.

For my part, I wish Spyderco would design a medium sized (Delica-sized) knife with:
* FRAME-lock
* SCREWED handles instead of pinned

I simply do not like the idea of having a knife handle (a la Delica) that is put together at the factory in a "once-and-for-all" manner that cannot be either disassembled by the user, nor tightened. So for now, I have stopped buying Spyderco knives even though I really like them and they are pretty affordable. Once I realized that I didn't like a pinned handle design, I realized I couldn't go back to buying them.

If you plan on advising me to buy the Salsa, well, I just don't care for that model. (Besides, can't they come up with less corny sounding names?)

and left the more exotic stuff in the safe. It was fun and cut's amazingly well for a $20.00 bill. Truly amazing for so little money.

While it's not a frame lock, if you want a super quality kife for a lot less than a Buck Mayo, you might look at the new Microtech Mini Socom. It's a liner lock, but executed with Microtech level of fit and finish. You could also get a new Mini Socom Elite for a few dollars more that as far as I know is Microtech's first frame lock.

Of course, if you just want sturdy and can live with a liner lock, there's teh Al Mar Sere 2000 and Shrike. Both are very sturdy liner locks.

What about a kershaw leek it has a blade just under 3 inch and has speed safe assisted opening all for around $50.00 I just won one here at the bladeforums so can not say how I like it but it got a good review here . I can not wait to get my hands on it. I hope this was help full.

I'm not exposed to the range of choice that the others may be but I'd like to cast a vote for the CRKT Urban Shark. It compares favourably in terms of strength and lockup to my EDC. Although it is supposed to be a 'tactical' design, it is fairly friendly looking. The very pointy tip also comes in handy.
