Considering creakote

I have a large Insingo inbound, got it for a good price.
I'm considering having a local gun shop cerakote the handles black.
Only the outside of the scales so the pivot isn't affected, though.
I'm guessing they'd have some way of masking the lockface.
Although, the lockup looked a bit late in the pics.
I wonder if it would be a terrible idea to not mask the lockface to make the lockup a bit earlier?

Just kind of thinking out loud. Anybody have thoughts or concerns?

I would mask off the lockface and the detent triangle at least! Maybe even the whole inside pivot/washer area. You don't need any extra gunk between your lockface and blade tang!

I've got two Three Sisters Forge Beast that are cerakote. Neither the lock bar face or the blade where the lock up occur have any coating on them. The Striders I have with coated blades are the same way.
If the makers don't do it, and they probably have a good reason, it may not be a good thing to do.
If I had to guess, I'd think the coating on the locking interface would create a slipping/lock failure situation.

Make sure to pop up some pics when it's done. I'm very interested in seeing the results.

I've Cerakoted plenty of knives & firearms. Cover where the bushings contact the liners/scales, the lock where it engages the tang of blade &/or detent ball & also if the screw holes have tight tolerances, you might have trouble with the millage of the coating in those places. I usually don't coat my knives beyond what Cerakote suggests, which is 0.0005” - 0.001” for H & C-series Cerakote.

Send it to Josh at REK (razor edge knives). He does amazing work and knows how to treat the lock face, pivot etc. while cerakoting.
