I am considering getting into some form of weapons based martial arts. This interests me for a few reasons. One, I really admire the purely artistic side. Striving to perfect one's technique. I am also interested in the idea of being able to spar with other students. Self defense is a factor as well, but not to the same degree as these others. Are these good reasons for going into FMA? Also, is this and expensive hobby (for lack of a better word...) What should I know beforehand if I do decide to take FMA up?
 
Do the research in your town. Compile a list of schools. Check the schools out by visiting and by reading everything about them you can get your hands on. Cross-check the schools with forum and magazine info.

Schools vary in price...

Sneakers, sweatpants, cup, T-shirt, and a couple of sticks is all you need.

FMA might be for you...You wont know till you try.

FMAs rule. The simultaneous training in knife, stick and empty hand is hard to beat. Find a good instructor-sit in on a class, ask around here. I don't know anybody in LV, but c/o the Modern Arnis site Here has a list of instructors..--Joe
