Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of getting an RC-6 and Izula with my tax return in a week or two. Will be using them mostly for camping and food prep. I have over 50 knives but nothing from RAT yet and thought I'd start here.

The RC Fire Kit caught my eye when it was first announced and so I thought I might get one of those also. Can you use the spine or thumb groves on the RC-6 and Izula to strike the Fire rod or should you use the edge?

Edited to add: Some friends and I are planning a 3 day camping trip here in Central Utah for the last weekend in April. We will be doing a lot of Dutch Oven cooking, some shooting (shooting range is 6 miles from the campsite) and practising some wilderness survival skills. Am thinking of making a brush shelter along with practicing my no match fire skills with the Rat Blades and Fire Kit. :) Does that sound cool or what?

Thanks,

Heber

The material we are using requires a really sharp edge to strike it.

That's sounds like a lowsy time and I'm glad I have no part in it.

J/K That sounds awesome. Have fun. Yes, the RAT blades will serve you well on this trip, as well as every trip you take for the rest of your life.RAT knives will never let you down, because even if the blade fails, the warranty never will.

Yer makin me jealous. Sounds like it would be a great trip. You will love the RAT knives they are top notch in every way.

I have gotten the fire kit to toss sparks using the spine of a crappy folder I have...but not too many, and not nearly as many as the edge.

I'd only use the edge of my good knives in an emergency, so throw in a little crappy knife maybe?

It only takes one good spark though usually. Pretty amazing stuff.

Wow, sounds like an awesome trip! Me thinks an RC-6 and Izula would make an awesome combo! I don't have an RC-6, yet, but as for the Izula, it's an awesome lil' blade!!

When people see it they love it. We burned up some carpet at SHOT demo'ing it ;)

Guys, thanks for the responces! :) I'm looking forward to getting my RAT knives and Fire Kit. Your information is exactly what I was looking for.

Been thinking today about making a Piggy Back sheath for the RC-6, Izula and the Fire Kit or a rod of some kind. Thinking a low ride or drop leg leather sheath in tan or a medium brown. Whatcha all think?
