Consolidation of the Victorinox Line?

I was cruising the Wenger and Victorinox websites after reading the thread on the limited edition "original" Swiss Army knife and noticed that it looks like Victorinox is consolidating their line (didn't see a Pioneer or Farmer listed, among others - although a Pioneer-type is offered by Wenger). Sure would stink if these models disappear from the marketplace.

Since Victorinox now owns Wenger, it's only natural for them to eliminate the duplicate products. IMO, they should go one step farther and develop/separate two entirely different product lines. Use "Victorinox" for the traditional SAKs and "Wenger" for the modern designs, for instance.

Victorinox isn't consolidating their line much. What they list on their site is only a (small) subset of what they produce. The old 1961 alox Soldier will be discontinued as the Swiss army get their new knife, but the Farmer, Pioneer, Electrician, etc, will go on being produced. This is what Victorinox has communicated on their own message board.

Whereas I have no specific information in that regard, I assume the Wenger SI, the Wenger Pioneer-type you refer to, will also be discontinued.

Victorinox isn't given to big and revolutionary changes in their lineup, continual tweaking seems to be more their style.

Yes, I know of that mail, but they also say the 1961 Soldier will be discontinued.

This has also been communicated in the official press release. (The Vic site is down, and I don't have a direct link to that.)

The only differences between a Pioneer and a Soldier is the keyring, the shield style (Swiss on Soldier, Vic on Pioneer) and the Pioneer has an engravable area in the scales.
