Got a message this morning from Ray C.

Sherpa (Yangdu) didn't like the way the infection in Uncle Bill's leg looked - the one he saw the doctor day before yesterday about - and took him back to the doctor.

Sherpa and the doctor agreed and apparently didn't give Uncle a vote. He's back in St. Mary's now until at least Monday.

Bottom line is that he's not in real danger, and is up to talking, but Sherpa periodically searches, finds, and swipes his list of phone numbers to keep him from spending 16 hours a day long distance. Apparently Uncle Bill and Ray have been friends long enough that Bill can dial Ray's number from memory. Ray tells me you can feel free to call Uncle Bill ( and I'd guess that if you do both Uncle Bill and the nursing staff up there will bless you ). The number to reach him at St. Mary's hospital is:

area code ( 775 ) 770-XXXX Room 526 CORRECTION 770-3388 (other# was CCU)

If you call him, it would be courteous to post what's appropriate on the forum to let us all know the latest.

Oh, yes: St. Mary's has an email for patients. If someone finds it, please post.

Thanks Rusty for the update and the phone number!!
I will at least try to give Uncle Bill a call.
I know what it's like too have a mate and a doctor in cahoots. Of course that also works the other way around. (VBESEG)

The hardy adventurer just drank from a stream he thought was pure glacier fed water not knowing that upstream was being used by a herd of yaks as a giant bidet.

I said he was hardy, not smart.:-)

All Grins aside, Guys....
Bill is in a dangerous way right now! If things go wrong or he gets some of those super germs, he could lose his leg. We all need to pray for him. I don't know if even he knows just how serious this might be.

Dan, I have to agree with you there. Hopefully, the antibiotics they're giving Uncle Bill will clear things up in a few days. In the meantime, he gets much needed rest.

It's not so much supergerms as Bill has been halfway around the world where the local "bugs" are different.

When I did Child Abuse investigations all 3 deaths involved 6 week olds. Evidence, no, but I have a belief that the body has about a six week reserve of energy to fight off stresses and situations. If it isn't replenished in that time, it runs out of steam. Bill may have caught something while around the world that his body kept in check until they massively insulted his body with the surgery. God, I'm getting garulous.

But seriously, he's where they can give him levels of treatment that would be dangerous if not constantly monitored.

One other thing kind of veering away but still pertinent. When I was going to college in Reno 25 years ago, I used to attend a Congregational Church sporadically. I happened to drive by the place Wednesday and it is now the Reno Buddhist Temple. Maybe I should find out from Yangdu...

All past tense but many thanks. Uncle Bill is still here and with both legs. The infection is in lower leg, about midway between ankle and knee on inside of calf. It is goes I'll be a breat candidate for a peg leg. Remember, I'm an old sailor man so a peg leg would fit just fine. I think I'll design my own with a few neat kardas and chakmas and other goodies.
