I've been away from my table........................away a long time. I used to use DAP's WELD-ON Non-Flammable Contact Cement on my sheaths. But I opened the can yesterday and it had set up inside the can!!! Is that still pretty much t he "go to" contact cement for sheaths?

I use Dap Weldwood in the green can based on Horsewright's recommendations. It works quite well and even better than Barge on some items.

I use Barge cement, and when it gets too thick, I splash a little methyl ethyl ketone in there to thin it.
I've used a latex based glue in the past, and found that during wet molding, it would more or less dissolve on me. All my leather gets cased, so waterproofness is my #1 concern.
should really look for an alternative, though, since I can ill afford to lose any more of my remaining brain cells.

I used Barge for a whole lot of years before trying the green Dap Weldwood. I make a lot of holsters and knife sheaths and virtually every one is wet formed, some very extensively. Barge did always hold but so has the Dap. I have yet to have any signs of failure before or after molding and my shop sure does smell better now. I would seriously suggest you give it a try. There is a small learning curve but the stuff just works.

that's what I was hoping to learn. Still have a fair amount to use up, but I'll try that stuff next time I need to buy glue👍

I use the green dap myself. Big plus is it’s available right at local hardware store , plus can’t beat the price. I’ve been using it with wet molding holds just fine. I also have some TF free Barge here but it still stinks !!

Yeah I used Barge too before the green Dap. For years. The only trouble I ever had with the Dap was it wouldn't hold on the zippers for chaps. I was keeping some of the red Dap just for that, probably the same stuff that went bad on the OP, and yep I had it go bad on me too. But nobody glues in zippers anymore. Everybody uses that two sided tape. Works better anyhoo.
