Contact Wheels?

I think it might work.....For about a minute

After that the so called bearing would either seize up from spinning to fast or shake itself apart from being too loose.

The bearings on commercial contact wheels are permanently sealed and made to withstand high speeds. That one looks like a kinda scary to me.

Remember that this is just my opinion and your mileage may vary

Thanks for the tip, Michael! And to think I was thinking of spending $60 on the Grizzly 10" wheel! That's what I love about this forum!

BTW, you need to put the website in your signature in parentheses for the link you typed to work.

:
The Grizzly grinder I just bought has a solid aluminum and rubber 8" contact wheel.
There are no bearings in it and it is a very close fit to the motor shaft.
The grinder has been setting on my workroom floor and runs very quiet with no vibration.
I understand the 10" contact wheel is made in exactly the same way.

tbark did your 10" contact wheel have bearings in it?!?!?

I can see an idler wheel having bearings as it has to spin on the shaft instead of being driven by the shaft.
A contact wheel with bearings makes no sense to me.

Am I confused?

Khukuri FAQ

The Grizzly grinder differs from some other companies models in that the contact wheel is also the drive wheel. That's why it doesn't need any bearings. Many others have the idler wheel as a contact wheel and that type does need bearings.

My grinder's are home built Both of the big ones anyway 1 has an old Burr King contact wheel and the other is an Ideler contact wheel that was made and balenced for me in a machine shop by a friend but the tire experience came before I had the other wheel made

I might grab one and pull the tire off the wheel and turn myself an aluminum wheel and put high speed bearings in it. Take care! Michael
