Hey Spark/mods,

I'm trying to track down a knife thats been evading me in the sales forums and have resorted to backtracking past sales trying to locate one. I've contacted some of the members involved in the sales that have gold status or above, but some of the others have let their's relapse and I'm not able to DM them any longer. In the past I would have been able to contact them through profile posts, but not any longer per this post of sSparks - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...-users-disabled-due-to-rampant-fraud.1982891/

I understand the reason behind disabling this feature, and I'm not asking for it to be reenabled, but wondering if there is a work around this not being available any longer. Could you guys let me know if there is another way to contact registered members, or is this just one of those cases where the scammers have fucked it up for the rest of us?

Thanks,

Winston

I'm not aware of a workaround.

One thing you might check though, is to look at when they were last logged in. That would at least decrease the list of folks you are trying to get ahold of. BF has a lot of dormant accounts.

Thanks knarfeng,

You ain’t wrong about the number of dormant accounts but most of the ones I’m after are mostly still current, just lapsed gold status. Appreciate you hollering though, at least I can tick that off my list and have one less thing to search for.

You could always make a WTB Knife post in the WTB Sub Forum, and then tag them in the same post.

That’s a pretty damn good idea, I’ve got a WTB, but hadn’t even thought about that. I’m a ways out on a repost but I’ll give that a go when I do, or maybe just go back and edit it to insert the tags. Thanks much for putting your thinking cap on, very much appreciated.

I totally get Sparks reasoning on shutting down the profile messaging, but pretty sure you came up with about the only option still left

The problem with this is that they won't be able to respond in said thread. Only Gold and above can view/post in the WTB forum. So you'll be able to "buzz" them, which is better than nothing, but still end up at nearly square one.

This is a tough one. Good luck, mate.

Per the exchange rules:

REGISTERED USERS - The first level of membership. If you have not purchased a paid subscription, you are by default a Registered User. As such, you are very limited to posting areas in the Exchange. You may respond to threads where you mean to purchase an item, or trade. You are not allowed to create threads for Selling or Trading (but you may respond to existing ads). You do have the ability to create Want To Buy threads.

Unless somethings changed, I'm guessing they should be able to respond if they're able to post there, although but since it doesn't specify I could be wrong. It does, however, leave the question of how to communicate with them after that open. Seems like it still comes back to posting an email address, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I'm not accusing anyone of intentionally trying to do something against the rules, but I'd say that's a real slipery slope to attempt to elicit a sale from a non Gold or higher member who doesn't have the priveledge to sell on this platform. I'd talk with a mod to be sure before doing so.

I think the discussion is all with good intentions. Just might want to have a conversation with the powers that be just to be safe.

Well hell, hadn’t thought about it from that perspective but you make a very good point.

Until one of powers that be do chime in on their own, and I’m certainly not asking for that here, I believe I’ll just continue with the WTB as it as and let it ride

Well, at least it was on another platform. It’s not like you were trying to get one over on the mods here so you’ve got that to ease your consience.

Truth be told, we’ve all probably done things at one time or another that make us feel dirty enough to want to hop into a tub full of bleach and use steel wool and a wire brush to wash the sin off afterwords.

And like you said, ya got the knife so not only will I refrain from judging, I’m gonna give extra points for an innovative approach. Well played…

Winston

Ps. What knife was it, and pics please?

They can create their own threads and reply there, but won't be able to see and respond in the thread you create.
They'll (likely) get the notification and then a "you shall not pass" when they click the link to respond.
