Just picked up a new 810 since my 950 has been a favorite for so many years now. Overall I like the knife but the blade retention is very weak, in comparison to my other axis BM's it's noticeably easier to pull the lock rearward on the 810. I looked inside the handle and it appears that neither of the axis lock springs are broken. Looks like it will be going back to BM, hopefully they have a stronger set of springs they can install, or these were just a weak batch. I'm sure the problem is compounded by the larger/heavier blade as well but it's by far the weakest blade retention of any knife I own. I'd guess half of my 950, maybe less. It also looks like if you pull the lock back and look at the section of the blade it rests against when the knife is closed they've changed that area to make it less retention compared to the 950. The 950 has more of an arc cut in it that allows the lock to sit deeper in the blade where the 810 is basically flat.

If I was someone that sat around seeing how fast they could flip knives all day I'd probably love it and it seems more companies are catering to that these days, but I've had one too many knives open up in my pocket or on a pack etc. during activity not to ensure the blade retention is solid.

Just curious if others have noticed this on this model or if mine is a fluke. I know someone else posted about this in May and their solution was to tighten up the blade pivot to induce more friction. Either way looks like it will have to go back to BM, give me an excuse to send in my BM 760 that has a non-existant detent as well.
