I received my 810 today. Damn. It's huge. I could probably EDC it, but I mainly wanted it for camping and hunting use, where I'm most likely to use such a large folder.

I can already tell it will will be a great fire prep and food prep knife, but has anyone used it for cleaning fish or skinning/gutting game?

I have one and I love using it for just heavy cutting when I need a big knife that won't get dull after a day's use. If you're going to use it outdoors, bring a little bit of food-safe oil with you because it's not a stainless steel... Not even close to stainless.

Yeah it's a beast of a knife but the M4 can rust. Just like a firearm, keep it clean and dry. Very good edge retention though. The 810 is one of my favorite looking knives in our lineup. Just personal preference...

I'm surprised there's no Gold Class 810, or even an 810-1.

This is the only benchmade that I have seen that I actually like. Beast... I still bet LionSteel gets my money for an sr11 first, tho.

Knifeworks exclusive 810 in M390 steel, one of my favourite knives I own. Same beast of a knife but zero rust issues to worry about. I dyed the scales black tho.

Yeah that would be cool. Did you ever see the 810-1601 or the 810-1401?
Oh yeah, I know of those. I just want more Contegos. The blade is just so kickass on it; the coating, the steel, the shape... super functional for a tactical knife. I just think the handle could use some different contouring and materials in the future.

Yeah me too. I love that knife.

Im an oddball but i dont care for the deep carry pocket clip. It requires a shuffle up the scales to reach the stud which might be a problem in an emergency. I know it could be swapped out, and I know of its smaller rift breathren too just saying. Wonderful knife though, well worthy of an auto offering imo.

I love my contego and am about to pull the trigger on a 390 model so I don't have to worry about rust.

I haven't had any problems with rust. I've carried mine for over a year in the rust belt mid-west, and a week in the outer banks. I sweat, a lot!

OTH I wouldn't mind one in 390.

Me and indoor pics don't get along, but your thread inspired me to take a quick (lousy) size comparison snap or two:

Indeed the Contego's a beast. Prob wouldn't be my first choice for fish due to blade thickness.

My son just received his M390 KW version - looks awesome. I love M390 too, a lot of my most recent knives have it. I had and sold a M4 version, largely because I hated the look of the finish on the blade.
