So im trying to decide my next blade... I've been eying the hest in LH but the Contego has also had my eye... They are about the same price...But I'm not sure... What say yall?

Gosh...very different knives. I've owned both and in my experience the Contego was a little too big and the Hest was a little too small. How do you plan on using it? Obviously cutting stuff, but some specifics might help make the decision.

The contego can be a little large for some people, but i like to edc it. It has great blade steel and i like the ergonomics. I think it would do well in a tactical role. The knife has plenty of traction.

Ever consider a Gayle Bradley? A nice balance in blade length between the Hest & Contego as well as being able to keep the M4 steel you would get with the Contego. (which I woukd prefer)

contego is a great knife but it was too big for me to edc. flat in the pocket though not bulky, & beeter bladesteel than the HEST- which gets great reviews but it is a lot smaller and has a frame-lock instead of an axis-lock. If you are comfortable going bigger than the Bradley I would say Contego.

also i was looking at the rift but it doesnt have enough jimping for my taste.

If jimping is the game, Contego is the name. I had to sand mine down, as it was like holding onto a long and skinny crab. One disadvantage of the BM, is it has a deep-carry clip on a looooong handle. I have two pairs of jeans with pockets that the knife won't fully fit in vertically.

I have a Contego and a Gayle Bradley. The two knives couldn't be further from each other. I don't make friends by saying this, but I'd never use the GB for any kind of hard/tactical use (please don't post that thread. I've seen it 18,913 times). The GB just doesn't offer anywhere near the level of grip that the Contego has, and the hollow grind leaves very little steel behind the wonderfully sharp edge. The shape of the handle on the GB almost lends itself to encourage your hand to slip onto the edge during any forward cutting/stabbing.

I would have to agree with you on the GB. I kinda use it as a gentleman folder due to the CF (I also have a Bad Monkey which imho has better texture than the GB.) the Contego is just under 4 inches and its built like a tank from what ive seen. for me the Hest kinda has too many gimmicks going for it. Tho I do like the rotoblock feature on it. However the controversy behind Robert Pelton, just read it...wow. might make me think twice...ive owned a couple BMs before and i do like them so I may go for the Contego.

hest folder is one of the best knives I own and their warranty is excellent. I buy knives for what they are and stay out of all the bullshot about the designers etc.

I have both. They are both very strong knives, but the contego is better at being a knife. The HEST is a sharpened pry bar. I've sharpened both to be hair popping sharp. The blade stock on the HEST is so thick it makes it feel like a butter knife through cardboard.

To me the HEST feels better in the hand than the contego, but if you like a MASSIVE amount of jimping the contego is the right knife for you.
