So my understanding is that Benchmade increased the Rockwell hardness on their m4 at some point.

Short of sending it out for testing is there any way to know if you have one of the ones with the upgrade? All I know is that mine is not a first run.

The Contego has always been advertised at the high hardness, and the change came before its release

Oh alright cool! For some reason I thought it coincided with their change to the scale milling when they toned down the cut.

As for testing... Have any of you guys ever done a rockwell or sent out for one? I'm curious as to what's involved, how involved it is around about how much they cost, who to send your knife to and if they can get an accurate reading through a coat of cerakote. If not is the tang a suitable testing area?

Thanks for any information as always.

I would recommend checking out our company forums. There is a section called The Laboratory about halfway down the category list where we test out our knives and post videos about them. You are welcome to post a questions regarding rockwell testing and I bet Peter and Tracy, our testing team, would put together a video for you. The link to the forums is in my signature line.
