Purchased a new 810-1401 contego from knifeworks and i love it. Awesome knife. It was ridiculously sharp out of the box and still has a razor edge. Blows s30v out of the water.
But 1 question. There is a dull spot about 1 inch down from the tip and it seems to have rolled. Makes no sense since i have only cut paper and a sandwich with it. Is it possible that this one spot is hitting the backspacer when I flip the knife closed? Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe on the regular 810?

Thanks.

The easiest way to tell is to shine a flashlight into the knife and see if there is visible marks on the backspacer. I think of the few hundred BMs I have owned, I can recall only two which had this issue so it is possible but not super probable. To keep larger knives compact, they do sit in in the handle with pretty close tolerances. The sharpening from the factory may have not been spot on, which if that is the case a very fine stone or even a strop could fix depending upon the edge's condition.

On one of the knives I had with this issue, I just loosened the screws for the back spacer, applied pressure to push the backspacer the opposite direction from the blade, and tightened the screws and that small amount of extra area fixed it.

There were some 710's that exhibited this same thing. It turns out the blade was a bit too tall for the stand offs used. A good sharpening will relieve that.

Thanks guys it is hitting the back spacer a little as i could see with the flashlight. I took it apart reassembled and it seems to not be hitting at all now. Thanks again.
