Welp, I've been on a BM rampage in the last few weeks. I have traded all my other stuff off, and now own all BM.

One of the knives I got, was a NIB Contego. This thing is a BEAST! I love this knife. I really kinda falls in between the Adamas, and the 710, to me. Man this thing is gonna cut like hell.

Any other Contego owners?

The Contego is my favorite currently in production, production knife.

Can't say enough about it.

Great knife that will serve you well.

Yup, it's my favorite knife.

I hated the Cerakote though so I stripped it.

I love the Contego. Its an amazing knife. I don't carry it much at all due to its size. My hands don't complement the 5"+ handle. I do really like mine, the looks, feel, steel, blade shape, company, everything about it. I carry it outdoors, or when I carry a smaller folder that won't scare people.

Awesome Knife though. If they made a mini I would have both.

Mine is a safe queen. I took it out of the box to inspect it, stuck it in a log for picture time, and then put it away.
Definitely going to get another for a user.

Eta: thank you PBCG for keeping me in line.

Glad you like it! I'm really enjoying the Gayle Bradley. It's bigger than I thought, which puts it in the right range for me. Great trade.

I too loved the Contego, but I have small enough hands that either my ring or middle finger would end up on that ridge in the handle. Best left to larger hands or gloves for me.

Bro,

You're too funny!

How did you strip the coating and what was the finish of the steel underneath like?

Thanks,

Kevin

30 hours in vinegar, then lots of scraping and sanding. The finish looks great to me, although there is some pitting, which I think looks good. I'm working on a patina now.

Cool. Looking forward to how the patina turns out.

They do. It's called the 950 Rift.

I really like my Contego. I am a fan of that blade shape, and I owned a 950 (sold it to fund the 810) and currently own a 940. I'll get a Rift again when it's available in a better blade steel (M390, please!!).

Honestly, though, it's a toss up between the Adamas and the Contego. My wife has the Adamas, and I love how it feels in my hand. The Contego won out due to the CPM-M4 steel, but if they ever come out with the Adamas in M4 or M390, I just might sell the Contego to get one. Until that time, though, it will be one of my main camping knives.

Same boat. Absolutely love the Rift. Sold it to buy the 810. I did have one of the cf m4 Rifts, but traded it for a Sebenza I think. I really miss both.

I'll never sell the Contego though. One, it's modded, and two it's my baby. Well, a baby that I beat up on. :D

710 was my edc for about a year and a half, when I got Contego it became my edc it's about five months now. Love the knife, excellent steel, awesome cutter. Glassbreaker is a little dissapointing, however, it doesn't change my opinion about 810. It seems that Contego may be my grail

Why is the glass breaker a dissapointment?

Something about keeping those hand done mods...all the work done to make them ours. I like what you did to your blade. Without the coating it looks really great!

I like the Rift, like you I wish it had a better steel, especially for the price (about the same as the Contego with M4). I also have a 940, and might try to trade for a 950 Rift if I can get the right deal. The Contego looks to have a slimmer handle than the Rift, but I didn't do a side by side.

I've got a Rift auto, and I like it as well. It is a smaller knife, but it isn't a sissy by any means. Yeah I agree, I wish they would do some better stuff with the blades. Hell, for that matter, I wish BM would do some newer steels period. How about some 390, or 3V. Man, come on guys.

I think Benchmade has more production models in M390 than any other company, at least of big brands, with the MPR, Shoki, and Barrage. They might've been the first to put it in a production model as well (the MPR)
