Hey,

It's been a while since I got a new Benchmade, so I've been looking at the Contego. It's been on the want list for quite a while, and as soon as funds allow it, I'm gonna pull the trigger on one.

But first, I need some feedback. Please keep in mind: I am not interested in the M390 version, only the all black M4 version.

How sharp is the jimping? Has the glass breaker ever caught your hand while taking the knife out of your pocket?

Also, how does this knife compare in size to other knives?

Thanks, also, pics are encouraged! :)

When I first got the Contego I thought the Jimping was too sharp, but after using it a bit I started to really like how locked in it was in the hand. Now I really like it. Mind you, I am not one that doesn't like over aggressive jimping on other knives like the 0560, 0301, or Adamas.

I have never had an issue with the glass breaker getting caught on my hand. I am sure you are aware of the glass breaker, back spacer breaking in use issue. If not, look it up, lots as been posted on that.

Size with the my other Benchmades minus the Adamas:

Ok, thanks for the pic. Could I bother you to post a pic of it next to your Adamas? I hear they are similar in size, and if that's the case then I'll be a happy man (I love my Adamas!)

It's a big knife, but it's thin. The jimping is sharp and all over the handle, but it doesn't hurt my hand at all. I like it's solidness, thinness and the blade shape. It's one I plan to keep because I think it has many superior features. Including, steel, blade shape, solid lock up and grip.

^^^ I had the same one and liked it a lot...but through use the coating started to wear off, so I sold it. Now I'm on the hunt for the one in my favorite steel...M390. Overall I love the knife and its solid feel and size. The perfect edc for me at work.

I can when I got back home. I can tell you because of the big handle on the Adamas it feels bigger than the Contego, though I think the blade is shorter on the Adamas.

The regular Contego does have a more aggressive grip to the G-10 but I wouldn't call it uncomfortable for short durations. You can always sand it down. It carries small for such a big folder. Amongst my three Benchmade favorites due to slim profiles: 707, 940 & 810.

Here are your requested pictures alongside the Adamas:

The handle and the blade on the Contego are both longer than the Adamas but the Contego is much thinner. As was said above, it carries much smaller than its size would seem.

i own a rift and i want a contego, but im wondering if there is really a point with the knives being so similar, the contego just has a bigger handle mainly it seems. is it a good idea to spend that much on a similar blade with a bigger handle or should i just get something completely different? i want a contego but its hard for me to justify when i have a rift and with all the other knew knives coming out soon. perhaps i should save the funds for the new benchmade 484 nakamura coming out soon.
