I've been waiting for a Joseph Rodgers pipe knife (Eddington Bros, Sheffield) to hit my radar screen. Found one today. It's as good a pipe tool as I've heard it was. It ought to last me the rest of my days.

Crazy man! I just received a very similar tool but from a diff. Maker. Works like a charm on my Hackert poker! Nice score!

Classic Sheffield design  Glad you're pleased with it :)

I used to come across a lot of knives in the same pattern made by Richards, but they'seem to have become less common recently. I like to come across different patterns too, this is probably the nicest.

Sadly, the likelihood of me finding a Dawes & Ball in my meanderings is extremely slim. I'd jump on it if I found one.

Nice find! Is that round doo-hickey opposite the blades used to tamp the tobacco in the bowl? Would you mind explaining the uses for the other tools as well? Thanks.

Yes, it is a tamper.
The blade is for cutting stuff, the poker is obviously for stirring and poking, and the shorter "blade" that's more like a spatula is for scraping out your pipe bowl. In the case of a wooden pipe, building up an even layer of charred stuff around the bowl (called the cake) and it's necessary to scrape it out from time to time, but you want to avoid damaging the cake with a pointed blade.

Yeah, it's the only one I've seen. A couple more I have are these.
