Anyone attending Blade Show 2024 stop by booth #2508 in the ballroom to check out the Contender Machine Works booth! This is my first time being to Blade and I am very excited. Stop by to see my line up of knife making tools for the custom knife maker!

A few items to check out:

Try your hand out at the Mach 4 belt grinder with an in person demo! We have a full wet grinding setup with some blade blanks ready to have bevels ground onto them. Anyone is welcome to try it out themselves. If you’ve never tried out wet grinding this is your chance! It really is a game changer.

A few new attachments I have for the grinder include: Waterfall/Integral Platen Attachment, Rotary Platen Attachment, Surface Grinding Attachment, and Small Wheel Attachment.

Another exciting new thing I recently got through the development stage is a switchable, on/off magnetic chuck for the Surface Grinding Attachment! Currently, I just have these to fit the Contender Surface Grinding Attachment but if anyone thinks they’d like to adapt one to a different make of SGA contact me or comment down below. This magnetic chuck is designed similar to a traditional magnetic chuck (like you’d find on a regular surface grinder) but is designed to be less labor intensive to build, making it cheaper to build. This chuck also has an array of slip fit holes for dowel pins to be used as a solid backer when grinding.

For anyone not able to attend the show and ordering online: If anything shows out of stock and wont let you order just send me an email referencing the Bladeshow special pricing. I will honor the special price but will have to send you an invoice once I have a chance to get the items made and back in stock. Darren@contenderworks.com

Thanks!

Hi Darren,

Is there anything special about your wet grinding set up? I love the idea of wet grinding I just hate getting soaked while doing it.

It mostly comes down to your overall setup.

So the grinder itself has a large water trough under the drive wheel that extends out the front of the grinder to allow the water to drain off the front into the water bucket. My misting system puts out the least amount of water compared to a full on flood coolant system. The ability to quickly stop the flow of water when you don’t need it for a few seconds cuts down on the overall mess some. Unfortunately, you will always get some water being slung around but if you get the system dialled in and keep a couple towels handy it isn’t bad at all. A nice apron helps a lot to keep your clothes from getting wet. I’ve managed to give several demos and keep my nice long sleeve shirt clean at the show if that says anything haha.

That on/off magnetic chuck really interests me if you can modify one to fit a Reeder!

I wish I could have stepped away from my table fo visit your booth. I heard good things!

I don’t think it would take much to get it to fit. I just need someone to tell me the bolt pattern and spacing!

It was definitely a busy show. I managed to sneak by your booth early one morning but you weren’t around. You had a real nice display with a lot of cool handle materials!

I made the mistake of leaving the website up while I was working the show and I ended up getting several orders in with requests to drop the orders off at tables. If you saw someone sprinting through the galleria trying to make it back to their table... That was probably me. 😂
