All right guys here is the deal, I have made a set of wood and copper handle scales for the 14 and I’m going to give the away. The reason I’m doing this is because this is the fifth thread I have started and now I can apply to become a beckerhead :-)

What you need to do to win them is carve something with a Becker knife. I don’t care what you carve or what you carve it out of. No limits just your imagination. The trick is this I am going to let my girlfriend pick the one she likes best and they will be deemed the winner. So you have to come up with something that she thinks is worthy of a win. It can be something impressive, funny, useful, creative..........Like I said you can carve anything.

I made these the exact same way I made the ones in my WIP Copper Liners & Wood Scales for my BK14 The only difference is that I sealed the handles with some polyurethane because it’s all I had on hand.

I’m going to run the contest for three weeks (until the 1/4/2012) Unless I get a requests to extend it.

The handles are not perfect I made them at my work bench but I put a bit of time into them so hopefully you guys like them. Anyone can enter as long as they use a Becker to do the carving. Post plenty of pictures of the process, no such thing as much as too many pictures.

Congrats on getting your Beckerhead number.

I think the polyurethane looks good.

Thanks for the contest. I will be carving something.

Wow thanks for the contest, those look great.

I'm not much of a carver, but I might have to try my hand at this.

Sounds good guys, just have fun with it. Maybe throw a few words in there as to why you would like it and she will take pity on your lack of carving skills.

Well doesn't really look like many of you guys are interested haha, Oh well just makes it easier for anyone who does enter. Here are a few more pictures of the handle.

It's a great contest. I hope you get a bunch of sweet entries.

If I didn't have some scales for mine I'd be all over this one.

Good luck everyone!!

Haha its all good man no worries, I am sure at least a few people will enter by the end. There is plenty of time left. As far as already having scales..... I think that means you just need another 14!!!! Just kidding. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Here is my entry. I'm not much of a carver. This was an old sharpening steel I found in a barn years ago. The handle had termite damage. I had a whitetail shed I found and cut it down, carved a few beads for my BK9 and BK13. Then I took the base of the antler drilled a hole in it and put the steel in. The carving part isn't real complicated but it did take quite a while, the antler is pretty hard. I just shaped it to fit the steel guard, and carved the brow tine down to a stump that fits my thumb pretty well. Over all I'm pleased with how it turned out. I will get quite a bit of use out of it and I think it looks nice. I used a Remora for all of it except the cutting on the antler and drilling the hole. The carving part was mostly to fit the base of the antler to the guard that has 3 points.

Remora I used for the carving

Thanks for the contest I like your scales a lot especially the copper liners.

I carved this spoon out of Osage orange with a BK-2 that I borrowed. The bowl was carved with a spoon knife though.

Econnofoot thanks for the entry, I'll let you guys know who wins after tomorrow at midnight. So if anyone else is interested they have until tomorrow night to toss their hat in the ring :-)

Those scales look super sweet! I only have an 11 and just found this thread. But good job meeting the qualifications for a BH#. I hope to get one soon myself. Hopefully by spring.

Thanks man, if you stick around here long enough you will have your number in no time. It really doesn't take long at all and the process is definitely fun!

So I was sitting here on the couch with the girlfriend and realized that midnight had passed so the competition has officially ended. In the rules I stated I would let my girlfriend pick the winner. So I showed her all of the entries and she liked Psyop’s entry the best. She said “ That looks like something you would do, you are always making stuff from what you find out in the woods” It is true the wood and copper used for the contest I found out in an old barn on my parents property. So Psyop congrats you won. Send me a PM or email ( nsvensen89@gmail.com )with where you would like me to send the scales. To OLJ and Econnofoot the entries are greatly appreciated and your spoons were really impressive. I have yet to try and carve one myself one of these days I’ve got to give it a try.

Thanks Nsvens89 and the lovely miss......I got the scales and had a HUGE surprise in with them.

It was a small knife he made from a file. It looks a lot like a tiny BK2 and it fit perfect in my BK9 sheath. I will post more about the scales and knife when I get to use them a bit.
