First of all, let me just say I had a lot of fun with this one. I felt very silly, but luckily I was in a place where no one else would want to go!
So, I started out by digging up some worms with a stick:
It was a nice day out and it started out as a nice little walk:
Pretty soon the trail started to get a little wet. I knew it would but this was really pretty wet:
Luckily I had my boots on. I just hoped they'd be enough:
This is my PSK fishing kit. I keep it in my pack all the time. All it has is some nice heavy line, some hooks, and a cabin creek for good measure. I did not use the cabin creek this day. I used the worms I had dug up.
So, I wrapped the line around a water bottle. (I figured I would have this on me, and would fit well in the simulation.) With the line wrapped around the bottle, you can swing the bait and hook around, then turn the bottle pointed towards the water and let her go! You can get some pretty good distance!
The first thing I caught was an inanimate object. A piece of wood with nails in it:
A good while later, the moment came! I had a live one! What could it be? I was hoping for a large mouth bass since they are fairly common back here, but alas. It was a pickerel. I really really really hate pickerel! I could definitely not live off of this, even if I had to:
Unfortunately, that was all I caught. There was no bass in my future this day. But I had a lot of fun anyway. As always one of my ESEE knives was with me. One of my Izulas. As is often the case:
I got to get out and it was a really nice day. I was standing on one of these tufts of grass! This area is large wetlands on the south end of Lake George we like to call the backwaters. It is best to go out in a canoe, and the wetlands go back a good way from the lake. I came in from the woods as you can see, deep into the backwaters. It can be pretty risky and you need to know where you're going to a certain extent so you don't sink up to your shoulders, literally! I grew up in this area and we used to come back here all the time. More often than not now I do come back here in a canoe.. You can just get at more of the good spots. Standing on these tufts of grass is like standing on a floating biomass, it takes a good bit of balance!
Thanks a lot for having this contest. Even though I felt like a fool every time I thought about what I was doing, I still had a blast. I really appreciate this forum. I am new here but don't feel like an outsider. So thanks again.
