Convenience Knives

This last weekend while tidying up around the ranch I realized I have knives scattered about 'for convenience sake'. There are 3 in my truck, at least 1 in each of 3 toolboxes, 1 in the first aid kit, 1 in the laundry shed, 3 in the barn, 2 in the tacklebox, 2 in my wife's car, 5 that I can see around my desk....well, you get the idea.
The point is I also carry (at least) my 110 every waking moment coupled with a VicSAK or an Endura. Regardless of the job or that there is a knife left nearby, one of my EDCs is out, job done and put away without a second thought. I have rarely reached for one of the convenience blades in favor of what is on my belt or in my pockets. Nor is it likely I'll wear out my favorites and be left having to pick from these 'others'. Sure as hell if I gather them all up and stick 'em in a drawer I'll wish I hadn't. Perhaps this is just a subtle way of disguising how freakin' many knives I have so I can buy more...you KNOW I need one by the remote to flick while watching Law & Order, and another on the porch swing to whittle with...oh! and one for....it's a viscious viscious slippery slope! :p

To me, my convenience knives are the ones on my keychain. The ladybug and Jester are knives that I never hestiate to take out in an environment when knife possession is legal. My little Victorinox is a close second since it has a file, scissors, screwdriver etc.

Merek - you're a fellow knifeknutt.

I have knives all over the place too. 5 fixed blades at my desk alone.

I have so many knives that I can't help but to have knives stashed all over the place. :)

Sounds like a good way to lose knives. Mine are in the most convenient and loss-proof place I can think of, a locked box (as long as I don't lose the keys :( ). My only carry knife is tied in my backpack so it's convenient each and every time I need it.

bedroom, display case, truck, boat, tacklebox (junkers of course, I wouldn't leave a good one in my tackle box), EDC's, camping gear, BOB, briefcase- the list goes on and on. You're just a knife nut, get used to it :D.

My convenience knives are around my bedroom which is where I'm likely to be if I'm not wearing my pants. Since I always have knives in my pants pockets I primarily need convenience knives when I'm wandering around in my skivies. I keep a SAK on my computer desk for odd fixit and mail opening purposes. I have a handy bedside valet/cabinet that holds a few dozen knives close to hand. The place I am most often caught short is in the bathroom where I sometimes resort to using a straight razor to open plastic packaging.

If I worked on a ranch, I would probably have a lot more knives on me and within reach. WHen I was a kid, my dad was part owner of a ranch and I got to visit it every year. That's some real tough work and knives are constantly being used.
As it is now, I usually have 2 knives on me, a couple in mine and the wifes car and of course, many lying around at home :)

Let me count the knives on my desk. 1,2,3,4,5,6...yea six knives on my desk. Another 30 or so in a box underneath it. Right now, I have about a dozen or so in my dresser drawers. A fixed blade on the dresser, folder on the night stand, Balisong in the living room, folder on the kitchen table, another folder on the the little bookshelf crap ends up on next to the hallway...

No...I don't really have my knives scattered around god knows where..most of them aren't from convience though...they're there because it was the last place I set them down after playing with them!! :D :D :D

Yea, I'm a knifeknut..

Being underaged, I can't carry everday, all day. I used to have my Scallion at my friend's house (I frequently go there), which is closer to my school than my house. I forgot I had it, and took it home with me. Never can remember to take it back...

Just as long as you don't think this makes you special :D You're one of many knife addicts here! Enjoy. :D

Isee what you mean by convenience more clearly now. Because I have toddler, I really can't leave anything sharp and pointy around the house.
