Convert Boker Kalashnikov to manual?

Hi, I used to see manual push button Kalashnikovs around (I think) But I can't seem to find them. I would like to convert a Kalashnikov auto to a manual. I love the plunge-style locking mechanism. Does anyone know if this is possible? My thoughts are since the button is spring loaded, removing the spring would make the button loose and the knife would not stay locked.

Thoughts?

yep. removing the spring is easy, but it makes it a gravity knife which may be illegal depends on what state you are in. you need to check your local city and county ordinances as well as your state laws.

yep the plunger is spring loaded, you can't remove that or the plunger won't stay locked. you can remove the auto coil spring that is attached to the milled area in the scales and the blade and make it open under spring tension when the plunger button is pushed. you following?

I think so. But isn't how that works now? (the default auto)

There are two springs inside the knife, one in the button that allows it to hold the blade either open or closed, and a larger one in the pivot that actually propels the blade open when the button is pressed. You want to take out the larger spring that fits around the pivot, which will disable the automatic function, but leave the little spring inside the button lock.

Your button will look something like this when removed and will have the little spring under it. This is the one you put back in when you reassemble the knife:

Underneath the blade will be a spring like this. This is what you want to take out:

^yep. what he said. nice pics showing. well done Sir.

Thank you, that makes sense. Like JB said, Would this become a gravity knife then since there will be nothing to hold it closed and no resistance to overcome when opening? That wouldn't be good.
Thanks for the help!

Did you do the conversion??? I did it in one of mine and really like it. The auto is still better with the spring but California won't allow auto knives over 2" (hopefully they will allow gravity ones). The only thing is would love to find a washer or something to fill in the gap in the handle scale where the spring used to sit thus improving the strength of the knife around the pivot area.
