convert Mini-Commander or Specwar to tip-down carry?

Hey, all.

I'm interested in the Commander, Mini-Com (and possibly the Specwar) for an EDC, but they're all tip-up.

Is it possible to buy one, and send it in to Emerson (the custom side?) to have screw holes tapped into the liner to convert it to a tip-down carry?

I know this will disable the Wave, but I've had some bad experiences with tip-up carry (ouchies) and I really have no need for super-fast deployment (100% for daily utility usage...)

The SARK and PSARK have holes already tapped to switch to tip-down carry, and the handle shape is relatively similar to the Commander (and possibly Mini-Com) so I was wondering if it was possible to do so (for a nominal fee) at the custom side.

As it is, I'm thinking about snagging a MOD Trident *grin*.

Thanks!

Y'all just send that nasty o' finger bitin' mini-C to me (postage paid, of course...) and I will be pleased to send you a finger friendly spydie in exchange...:D :D :D

Why on earth would you want to resort to tip-down carry??? ;) Seriously, I'm sure you could get a machine shop to drill-and-tap a Commander for next to nothing. The SARK/PSARK use the exact same handle as the Specwar. The CQC-7 is already rigged for tip-down carry as well. If you are set on getting a Commander (why you would want one without the Wave is beyond me at the moment), try carrying it tip-up for a few days, and use the Wave. You might find you like it.... :D

Send it to me and I will convert it to tip down carry for you for $15 plus $4 return shipping.

biogon,

David or a Machine Shop can do the work for you at a resonable price. I've had several Spydercos and BMs coverted to Tip up" in the fashion your talking about by a local Machine Shop.

As side note, in years of carry, I've only been "bit" twice carrying tip up. The reson these even happened was I carry my knives in my rear pockets. If you carry a right handed Commander in your right pocket, the blade rests against the seam of your pants and will no (can not) open in your pocket.

ccoates,
Actually, believe it or not, it wasn't my Mini-C -- I carry her tip-down (fortunately). It was LONG time ago, but pain is a good learning mechanism. :D Unfortunately, I will have to pass on your most generous offer.

David,
Thank you -- I will contact you soon. I'm out of the country for the next week, and I'll need to actually acquire the Mini-Com (or whichever). I assume you can put screw holes into the liner, right -- and not just the G10 (as I'm told the original Benchmade CQC7 was?) Thanks!

Mr. Hollister,
I have usually carried mine in the rear-left pocket (allowing a tip-up knife to open), for these reasons:
Front right: keys, remote car door openers, Leatherman Micra
Front left: Phone, napkins, anything else I pick up
Rear right: Wallet
Rear left: ... dumdumdum... knife!

How do people generally carry a knife if NOT in their back pockets? I come from NJ, where no one has EVER heard of carrying knives (hey, it's almost illegal) so, believe it or not, I've never seen anyone carry one.

Mr. Frost,
I may in fact do so, although I'm not sure it'll help with it being in the rear-left pocket ;)

I'm right-handed, which means that every time I deploy, there's a huge time lag... but then again, I've never had a box or letter attack me so quickly I couldn't switch hands and still get the drop on it. ;)

Thanks for everyone's quick reply. (Now, to find out why emersonknives.com is down...)

I carry my Commander in my right front pocket, all the way at the back, so the blade cannot come open in my pocket, and it Waves there without problem.
Carried it that way for a year and a half, no problems at all.

Now carrying a Zero ground custom cqc-7, thats as sharp as a razor, in the same method without a single problem, and without it coming open, in various styles of pants.

I use my knives for utility, but, personally, would never compromise them for a fast defensive draw. "It just happens to other people" is a fallacy... to everyone else, YOU ARE one of the Other People. Not saying you think that... its just worth saying I feel.
