Anyone have any opinions on converting an Emerson to a traditional V-grind vs the chisel grind? Would I be committing Emerson blasphemy? It would be on a mini CQC-15.

The chisel grind is an example of what you find on the CQC7. The 15 is a V grind, it is only sharpened on one side (totally different)

Sorry... that's what I meant... what I understand is the CQC-15 is V-grind but only on one side... anybody have opinion on sharpening both side so it's symmetrical? I want to use it as my EDC and thought that would give it some more symmetrical cutting. Maybe I am misunderstanding something.

Try it for a while first before doing anything. They cut fantastic as is.
- I agree 100%. Unless there is a specific reason you want a V-edge, you should give the chisel edge a try. I absolutely love the chisel edge. They are extremely easy to sharpen and are very sharp.

-I absolutely love the chisel edge.

Likewise.

If it is the asymmetry that concerns you (OP), consider that your arm which holds the knife functions asymmetrically. Also, most things you cut will be cut with uneven pressures on both sides of the blade -otherwise known as asymmetrical forces. The idea that a symetrical blade is superior just because it is symmetrical is kind of a hard thing to prove, IMHO. Give it a try as is.:)

Cool! This is my first Emerson and it's hard to gauge all the crazy on the internet. So far, it seems like a great knife.

Then use the hell out of it. You will appreciate sharpening one side only.
- I spent about an hour a few weeks ago sharpening all of my knives using a Lansky. After about a dozen knives, I realized how much I loved sharpening the Emerson. No need to worry about more than one burr, no need to worry about more than one angle. I simply set one stone to 30 degrees and stropped the other side. It could not have been easier.

Not to beat a dead horse, but like all above, your best bet is to just use it. Everyone will have their opinion, but most of them are secondary. Try it, see how it works, then change it if need be. Enjoy it. Love it. Then abuse it. Please hold off on all bad jokes. Eek.
