Converted BK9 sheath

I recently received my BK9 pancake kydex sheath from AZWelke, complete with bracket for my ESEE pouch. It's a fine piece of craftsmanship that will serve me well through many adventures, no doubt. Anyways, I was unsure of how I planned on carrying my 9 and ordered it without any type of mounting system. Thinking it a waste to let the stock sheath collect dust on the floor, I set out to convert it in to backing for my kydex. After cutting off the plastic liner and pouch, I punched some holes and attached with a few screws I had lying around. Whole project took me around 10 minutes so far. Still need to figure out how to attach the backing at the top of the kydex near the retention strap but I think it's going to work quite well.

It really is some seamless work and the fit is nice and snug. I'm going to get some custom leather for my BK2 next. She deserves it.

Cool. I never thought of that. I was working on a strap system for my pancake sheath but I had a ways to go yet. I think I'll just steal this idea instead.

You could put a spacer there and just use a longer screw, just an idea.

If you can't find one that fits exactly, get the next size up from what you think you need, and sand it down, just another idea.

I really like this, That green looks really good with the black nylon. Have any more pictures of it?

I'll get some more up here in a bit. Just found a few minutes to try and work on finishing it up.

Looks good man, how hard was it to get that plastic liner and pouch off the backing?

That looks right purdy if I do say so myself. The only thing that's keeping me from buying it off of you aside from lack of funding for fun, is the height of it, I personally can't stand anything higher than a drop-leg carry, something about pushing my arm back to draw a knife into my arm pit just doesn't sit right with me, even if it is pommel first.

Did the spacer idea help?

Very easy. Just sliced it off with an ESEE3 close to the stitching.

Yeah the ride isn't ideal for me either but at least the top of the pommel rides at belt level. I've seen some guys with tek-loks where the whole handle is above belt level. The spacer idea worked like a charm, thanks.

I have to agree with you on the tek-loks, those things would kill me, I wish they made a version with a strap.

That does create a handy use for your old sheath! looks Good.

I discovered last nite my homemade macheknife fits nicely in my BK9 sheath...so I know what I'm gonna use it for when I get an AZwelke for my 9! I love it when things work out LOL
