Like topic says i converted my flash 2 to switch blade/auto. This was the part that isn't allowed.... Used normally the lock switch engages just fine.

I read somewhere where some other people were doing this.

I think there was quite a debate over which method was best. One person I remember said they had a special technique or specific way they did it.

I personally think your best bet (to be on the safe side with law enforcement) is to stick with the SAT feature, it's just as quick and legal. :D

Oh, I like switch blades too. :)

It's cool, but talking about it might be a no-no according to the FAQs. I suppose it depends if converting a knife into a switchblade is considered illegal.

You've got the makings for one incredible YouTube tutorial, though. ;)

Hmm hard to say i did look at the faq bef posting. I took it to mean no selling or talking abot how to sneak a bali or switch blade past customs in to ca and such. Where i simply converted a knife to a switch blade. Well if mods think its breaking the rules here or skirting them they may feel free to nuke the post. Not a big deal.

In reality knives like the sog flash series and the blackie colins strut and cut and the ones from crkt are law skirters already.

think about knives like the twicth series or the topo meridian , theres not much difference between pressing the kick and pressing a button , so who needs an auto? the difference is i can get an assisted opener here in australia , a switch blade is a bit harder lol

Yeh knife laws are jusst lame. I can pop open a buck110 just as fast as a switch blade by adding a thumb stud and open it damn near as fast with out. I can also open it as fast as a switch blade but in a much deadlier reverse grip by simply flicking my wrist. An personally i thnk the loud crack you hear when doing it is much more frightening than a switch blades little click. Even the sog as its now only goes clack. Then you got balisongs that you can not carry ither. And as far as folding blades go they are by far the safest. No offence to sog but i could take and blow the blade out of a brand new zytel handled flash 2 in about 5 minutes if i tried to. Like all folders other than balis it has 2 points of contact the back stop and the pivot. A balisong has 3 points of support compared to 2 on a standard folder. With all being equal pin /pivot quality the balisong will take much more force to break. As for sogs well im eye balling a sog flash 2 with alloy handles :)

Also to any one working at sog i didnt notice but does sog have any fix blades with 4 inch or smaller blade length? Id not mind getting one for every day carry at some point. And every one i spoke with in law enforcement in ohio said same thing 4 inches or under onlyy on blades for fix blade knives. Right now i have a crkt hawk kat i carry and love right size for the handle etc shape. I prefer pocket /belt clip sheaths over belt loop /slot. Im still looking over the site but on my lappy its really slow going heh.

hmm just found the contour It has a similar shaped handle to my kat and a similar size. Kydex neck knife sheath so even with out a existing clip i could easly add one.

As I said, I like Switchblades.

Novaflare, how did you like that tiny spring and ball bearing in the Flash II ? First time I ever took one apart all I heard was something tiny hit the floor............:o

Only one i seen was on the lock release. Mine is retained in a way it wont pop out. It dont seem to serve much purpose in the zytel handled version any how. I how ever did not remove the blade so if its under there i never even went that deep in.

More disallowed content... I can get new through a couple places for 48 something shipped. I have to wait till next friday though. I might get me 2 more zytel handled ones. That or a zytel handled one and a contour. dont know yet depends on if he comes through next week heh.

i love my alloy handled flash 2 , used it as a work knife until sheeple kicked up a stink . i`ve got an RKK swift striker two for a switchblade

Not the first time ones been converted. Boker top locks start their lives out as a switch blade and boker pulls main spring out and sells on use market that way. Then others re add them here in the us nd resell for a profit. Corse the sog beats the boker in one way the sog flash is dual action. One thing ive noticed about all spring asit knives it seems they are eayser to open useing your middle fingure on the stud than useing your thumb. Ive dropped the sog a couple times and before that my merico openign with my thumb. Not a isue really just a observation.

This is an interesting topic. Yeh there are better things than an out the side auto (my emersons wave out faster and safer than any out the side auto I have heard of) but it is interesting to turn a cheap knife into something a little better. What I would like to know is how to do the same to a decent knife like the s30v leek or spec bump (even though the flipper makes them pretty much auto anyway). Some photos of your work would be great to see also.

I dont thik this laptop would survive lol. Pluss got no digital camera. Id have to see the knives in question but most of the spring asisted knives ive seen use some varioant on the old strut and cut design. They use a strut bar inside the knife that has a small bend in it. The reason why it works on the sog is because the lock piston is also what holds the blade shut against the springs tension that opens the blade. Move the lock piston back while the knife is closed the spring over comes the force and pops the blade open.

thanks for the info nova, how do you get around the lack of a firing button? On another note, knifekits sells all the parts to convert any folder to an auto (including the special drill bits) and even sells a book with instructions...lol...

The lock release is the fireing button/switch.

Yes... you guys are pushing the "legality" envelope... I suspect your knife has become an illegal weapon in most jurisdictions. Posting about it here (particularly HOW to do it) could potentially compromise Spark and the Forums. I will check on it and see what his take on it is. This is public domain, and he is responsible for it.
If he doesn't like it, one of us will, unfortunately, have to delete the thread. :(
That said, it doesn't surprise me that people are doing it.;)
