Converting Backspacer Emerson To Standoffs Possible?

Got a new mini-15 with standoffs and really like it over the backspacer. Is it possible to convert a backspacer version over to standoffs?
I understand the backspacer version screw into the liners, where the standoff versions screw into the standoffs, so I'm guessing the liners would need to be drilled out and new screws needed.

Liners would need to be drilled and tapped because the way the back spacers are attached is a staggered pattern. If you are set on it, contact EmersonRep and see if it is a service they offer and how much it would cost. Compare that to what a "pimper" would charge and figure out if the voided warranty is worth it down the road. I happen to like the backspacer, I have Emersons dating back to 2004, and only 1 (soon to be 2) with standoffs.
Measure the gap between the liners of the thickness of the spacer, that will be the size of standoff you need. Screw sizes for the standoffs will usually be included Knifekits.com should be able to hook you up.

Thanks RD. I've got a message out to EmersonRep. Not sure it was a project I wanted to do on a new knife, but maybe a beater I can find cheap. Thanks again.

So after talking to EmersonRep, I think I'll just leave them as is or make a few custom spacers since that is cheap and easy. If anyone is interested here is ER's reply:

"We can do the conversion but it's not cheap. Since it's not a hot swap all of the holes in the liners are in different spots as well as the handles. You're basically exchanging the whole knife minus the blade. It's around $100 for everything but i'm not certain. You'd have to call EKI for a better estimate.

Nothing wrong at all with the backspacer. I would hold onto it and use the retro-fitting funds for your next knife purchase!
