How difficult would it be to convert a tanto point blade to a wharncliffe blade? I was thinking simply using a hacksaw to cut off the tip would suffice. Any pointers, and suggestions for a cheap tanto folding knife with a completely straight (no recurve) edge to try this out on?

Hack saw will not work!

Use a belt sander or dremel tool.

It will take a while with a hardened steel blade and you must dip your knife after each pass to prevent ruining the heat treat.

I recommend grinding the spine of the blade to the tip of the yokote. You will have a thicker tip then and it would be a stronger wharncliffe.

Definitely need a grinder.
Belt sander will work, but take ages.

Hell the grinder will take long enough. But the belt sander will then be useful is reshaping the blade after the grind.

The steel will be way to hard to cut with a hacksaw. It will more than likely just skate off the blade. When I modded my Opinel, I used an agle grinder with a cutoff wheel. I kept the blade sitting in a pool of water to make sure that it didn't overheat.
