Convex again.... kind of Busse related

A week or so ago Jaxx posted some photos of a CGFBM with a very slightly damaged tip and I jokingly said that he could take it out with sandpaper and keep the edge convex.

Well last week I went out in the mountains for a few days and one of my S30V knives returned with some chips out of the edge. So I thought I'd see if I could take them out with sandpaper rather than use an Edge-pro.

Here are before and after pics. I did it quick and dirty. All I used was 100 grit sandpaper and then a strop with course compound. The chips are gone and it shaves, it took about 10-15 minutes. I would think that INFI would be quicker to fix than S30V.... but then it wouldn't have needed any "fixin" in the first place. The new AD came home undamaged and still shaves.

I expect that more can be done with sandpaper then I ever thought.

It looks to me like you took them chips out pretty good with the sandpaper ;)

How did the S30V knife chip out like that in the first place? I know that INFI has a tendency to roll out or dent instead of chipping like that.

Other than fishing line and food, all I remember using that knife for was to carve up some small dead branches to use as tent stakes in some soft deep soil (I needed them longer than the metal ones.)

I was pretty disappointed. Although I have had S30V chip out many times before; at least in those cases I was using the edge pretty hard.

I understand that is why Reeves doesn’t take S30V to the same hardness as other makers. I have never had one of his S30V knives chip. (I’m not going to post the brand of this knife.)
