Convex blade grind, Why?

I assume the convex grind is to gain some of the weight and strength of a saber grind but still have some of the chopping and slicing pros of a full flat grind.
What are other pros and cons? Thanks!

Convex edge, and full convex grind will yield, I believe, the best chopper there is.

Convex edges tent to chop better, due to material separation, and less drag in most materials.

Convex grinds tend also to be stronger than v grinds, because there is more material supporting the edge.

convex edges also tend (for me at least) to be the simplest easiest edge to maintain ever.

I agree:thumbup:

I have experimented with convex edges and must say I have been disappointed. I have tried convex on thin blades of other brands as well as the relatively thick blade on a meaner street.

Possibly due to my lack of skill in doing convex, I feel I can get a much sharper edge using either Diamond stones or water stones or a combination of both to create a good bevel edge.

I will however reserve my judgement for bigger knives / choppers like an FBM as I have yet to try one out with a convex edge that I have put on myself.

Takes some practice and understanding of hte geometry involved. Plus you need it pretty good polished for it ot slice like the dickens. But I like it. I had to sharpen my BAD yesterday. Used my Edge-Pro. I honestly dislike the EP now. I think I'd do just as good of a job with a V-grind by hand on a stone. And a convex edge I KNOW I can do by hand. . . or on my Harbor Freight grinder.

You do this so that you can't cut yourself with it.

Just kidding.

Because they are SHARP and STRONG and EASY to maintain:thumbup:
