Convex blade list

Is there a listing anywhere of production knives with convex blades? I know from this forum that Fallkniven and BRKT use the convex grind but I didn’t see it mentioned on the Fallkniven web site. BRKT has it up front on their home page. I’ve read here that Swamp Rats are as well.

The convex blades are a little trickier to sharpen so I’d like to know what I’m getting into before buying a particular knife. Please note that I’m assuming that if a company has one knife model that is convex then they all are - maybe a bad assumption.

I'd appreciate a little commentary on this issue that convex blades are harder to sharpen???

Never heard that before. I'm trying to work a Bark River into my projected budget and I, too, would like to know about this.

You can't maintain the convex geometry on jigs and v-rods. If you free hand sharpen they are no harder. You can of course just use the jigs and v-rods to apply a v-grind microbevel ontop of the convex primary grind. HI's khukuris also have convex edges, and the Valiant Goloks have full convex grinds.

Cut a mouse pad into two or three strips and glue patches of sandpaper (varying grits) on them. With such a setup, you can sharpen convex edges as you would a flat ground blade.

gbaker,
Marble's knives are also convex ground.

Thanks Quiet Storm. How do you know that? I don't see on the web site, but that doesn't mean anything.

Another question - can you see the difference in a convex vs V type with 30X handheld microscope?

I forgot to mention that Busses used to have a combination grind: a flat edge on one side, convex on the other. I don't know if they still make 'em that way.

Marble's is the company that introduced the convex grind to the world of modern production knives, but I honestly do not know whether all their models have that grind (although I assume they all do).

You won't need a microscope. An ever so slightly convex-ground edge may not be discernible from a flat edge without a magnifying glass, but on Fällknivens, for example, the convexity of the edge can easily be spotted with the naked eye.
The most obviously convex ground edge I've seen is that on a custom fixed blade German knifemaker Günter Böhlke made for me.

They are so easy to maintain, you'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner.:D
