I have stayed away from convex edges because I would rather stick to my spyderco sharpmaker.

Question is if I wasn't concerned with maintaining the convex type edge Could I sharpen it on the sharpmaker? Or is it already too different?

the convex edge is curved so you need to be able to maintain that curve. you need a soft backing underneath your abrasive to form a convex edge and a soft backing in order to maintain it with a strop. the answer is no on the sharpmaker

Depends on the final angle of the edge and how convex it is. If the curve is large, you'll hit the shoulders above the edge. If the curve is shallow, you can use the Sharpmaker as long as the edge is equal to or lower than the standard 30 or 40 degree settings. You will not be able to polish the entire bevel, but the Sharpmaker is capable of adding a micro-bevel and sharpening the edge.
