Convex edge sharpening on a Bark River?

Is it bad to change the edge shape on a convex blade? Overall there shouldn't be any change in performance right? Just got a Woodland piece from Bark River. FYI --- I own a Bushman that I just noticed is bent, about 1-2 degrees from straight. Cause I left it wedged in a hickory branch for a couple weeks. Pretty sweet! Thanks for any info on a convex piece.

If you change a well made convex grind knife into a v-edge, you will probably notice a difference.

Since keeping a convex grind blade sharp is so easy, why not keep it that way until you're sure you want to change it?

Barkies are well-made knives, very sharp out of the box on all the ones I've gotten, and easy to keep that way.

That would depend on what you wanted it to do and how much and in what manner you changed it. If you add a small secondary v-bevel, then no, that will have no significant effect on performance.

Thanks guys. I have been reading up on the process and it seems pretty stratight forward, using the flexible backing under sandpaper. Guess I will be figuring out how to make a travel size setup for in the field. Peace.

I always thought it would be harder to maintain a convex edge, that's why I've kinda stayed away from Bark River. I suppose stropping them is easy, but it seems like it would be a hassle to use the mouse pad/sandpaper system.

Hey Cliff how do you sharpen a convex edge. I read in another one of your posts that you dont use the mousepad method anymore.

A properly made convex edge is quite easy to maintain. The sandpaper or strop system is no more complex than using a DMT for a V bevel - it is just different. Once you do it and get the technique (just like you have to get the technique to do a V bevel), it is not a problem at all.

I will second that the technique is very easy to figure out, and if you can hand sharpen a v bevel you shouldn't have a problem.
