After questioning myself if I have ever had or seen such an animal, I am wondering. Is there such an animal? Is it so apparent that I am not seeing it? Or is it that there just aren't any? There has to be!! Doesn't there? Is there a folding knife that sports a convex grind blade ?? Custom or Production.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any. But you will be seeing one soon! It may even have your name on it.

I thought that the Sebenza comes with a convex edge. McGreg, I grew up in Van Nuys. My folks had a house near Sherman Way and Louise, right near Louise park. I got my Respiratory Therapy education at L.A. Valley College in Van Nuys.:D

I had a folder from Ed Caffrey that had a convex ground 52100 blade (with temper line), G10 handles and titanium liners. I think it was a great working knife. It wasn't fancy but it was always sharp and cut lots of cardboard without needing to be resharped.

The knife was lost on the way back from BAKCA last year. I will get another eventually.

Ed. That is music to my ears!!!
Scott Dog, I am in the exact same area. Big city, small world.
Chuck, sorry to haar about your loss. Like you said, it stayed sharp for a long time. I cannot think of a reason why we do not see more of this type of blade in smaller knives. If I am missing something here, everyone is welcome to clue me in. Is there extra labor in this that would account for the limited, if not rare, type of blade in folding knives? There can't be that much involved.

Well, the one that comes to mind is a new model by Michael Vagnino. It's featured in the Spec Sheet section of the May 2002 Blade mag. It has a differentially treated 52100 Persian style blade, Ti liners, and a bolsterless Micarta handle.

According to the article, its still in the prototype stage, but it seems that he will start making it on a regular basis if the demand is there. It received a rave review from Kim Breed.

Ed. Are ya sure that we want them to know just yet? Or should we wait for the "Grand Finale".
Wire, that sounds like a good one, no doubt!!

It is your call Greg. Probably nothing is going to happen until Angie gets her kitchen cabinets done. She won't come to the shop until the cabinets and stuff are done. Now she is talking about a sink.

Well, yeah, ya gotta have a sink I guess. Well sorta... we'll have to look into that one. Better wait on the main issue here. Won't do much good without a photo. If ya know what I mean.
Greg

The CRK Sebenza does not have a convex grind and CRK has no plans on making any. Just to clear things up a little.
Greg

I believe that the Sebenza has a hollow grind, with a convex edge bevel.

I also believe that the mysterious "can't be found anywhere" new Marbles folder sports a convex ground 440C blade. Here's a pic.

I think Buzzbait got it. The Sebenza has an overall hollow grind, but the edge is a convex grind. I guess that's where I got confused.

Thanks Buzzbait. BTW, where did you get the photos? That is a new knife to me!!
Greg

Steve Dunn, MS, makes a very nice folder that features a convex grind. I don't remember the model name, but its sort of Practical Tactical or something like that.

Maybe there will be a few in Eugene for me to check out. Can't seem to find 'em anywhere either.
Thanks Buzz
Greg

Ok...in the 11 years since the last post here has a manufacturer come out with a convex blade folder?
