Convex Grind Process

Could someone please comment on a good convex grind process. I tried one over the weekend...3/16" 440C. Using a slack belt, I just ground and ground and... (you get the idea). It came out ok, but I figure there's a better process...maybe beveling first with a platen, then smoothing?

Freehand it on a contact wheel to take off most of the stock then go to a slack belt to finish it off.
