Convex grind: so simple I can understand it.

Yep, I refer people to that article all the time. Very good explaination!

One of the *real* tricks to this is to not press down too hard...the strop will curve around and actually dull the edge somewhat. Use just enough downward pressure to maintain solid contact for a real hair popping edge.

Thanks Kismet. I am sharpening two khuks to send to my brother, and keep flashing back to Yvsa's demo for us at Gin's house in Mesa at the SWKK, when he sharpened my Cherokee Rose to a fierce edge. I remember he held the knife handle in his left hand and then pushed with the sharpener in his right, and would rotate the blade up to meet the sharpener, kind of rolling it over the edge until he got a burr. I'm trying to get the same effect now. I know there will be some feathering of the steel that can't be helped as it comes in contact with the sharpener, but that's OK. These are going to be users for his next camping trip. (A 16.5" WWII and a 15" AK.)

Thanks again for the great link.

Regards,

Norm
