Hi every one
hope all is well and sharp.
well I picked up a craftman 2x42 and have been playing with it.
I also ordered up some O1 to make a few knives ,A 10" utility /around the house/camp out of 3/16" it will be a rope cutter , branch cutter, kindling splitter, digger and some food prep. I will also be doing a trout/ bird type out of some 1/8 " .
In the past I mostly only did saber grinds on stuff for the historical folks (myself included) and never really cared if the edges were real good cutters as my knifes and swords were mostly window dressing for period costumes and used to clear brush once in awhile and split fire wood.
anyway I was playing with the grinder on some mild steel and found I can get a nice convex grind and pretty easy.
I tried a flat grind and if I go flat I can see lots of file and sandpaper time as this inexpensive machine is reel jumpy-rickety with any good preasure against the platten.
So for a first couple of projects (in-between making fly rods) Im wondering if a Moran grind will be ok for knives for my own use as I have the slack belt sander to keep them sharp?
Great site and thanks for the help "John"
