Convex on AK

Here is the convex edge I put on my new AK. I spent many hours on it and it is hair popping sharp. I do it all by hand and start at 220 grit and go all the way up to 2000 grit on 3M Imperial Wetordry automotive sandpaper. I did an FFFBM the same way and it turned out awesome. I will post pics of it soon. Sorry for the crappy pics but it is the best I could do for now. I would like to send it to the pro, Ken Lunde for him to shoot some macros. I tried to capture the mirror edge. It actually looks like chrome. I have my own method that I use and it works better than anything I have tried before. If anyone is interested I will share my secret. :D Oh bye the way, thanks for all who have sold me these excellent knives.

Wow! Looks good to me. There were talks on an earlier thread about consolidating all the sharpening info from members in the Busse crowd. I would mind knowing your secret.

Looks good!

I have one question though, whats with the wavy coating near the tip? Is that because of the way you sharpened it?

That looks great. I'd love to know more about how you did this. In sections?

rvogster: The wavy pattern near the coating is just the CBTs also seen on the Hell Razors and CG FBM.

Great job.

Thanks guys! Tyrkon is correct, the wavy coating is the way the OD blade finish was sanded off at the CBT's. I will post tomorrow in sections of how I get my convex edge. I am too tired tonight and must get some beauty sleep. I will take some pics and try to get an mpeg if I can. I do not say my method is the best but it works the best for me and I have tried other methods. I like it because it removes little of the coating and only takes away material at the edge for the most part. This method also maintains a thick edge like I like for the choppers and for maximum strength. Tyrkon I want to say I love your videos on the AK and everything else you guys have done. Busse should thank you and the other guys for giving me the fever, your vids sold me. Have a good one.

Nice work Barbarossa..... that edge looks great.

Not an easy task to rework a blade that size by hand and get such a good result.

Absolutely beautiful edge on that AK! Would love to know how you achieve it, and of course, add it to the blog!

I sharpened mine, in sections, with my Edge Pro. What a pain. I do not want to do that again. I'll have to tkae notes here. ;)

Hey everybody I will need a couple of days to get a nice tutorial put together, due to my work schedule (24/7) :( Just letting you know that I did not forget about ya.
