Hey guys, I was wondering what were the positives and negatives about convex and "V" edges. I was looking at the Work Sharp knife sharpener, but it convex's your edge. I currently use The Edge Pro, and love it. This seems quicker though. Any input is appreciated!

Faster at messing up you blades is about it.

Howdy,

I actually have both (and the original WSKT sharpener). The KO is light years ahead of the original and when used properly after practice is much less likely to damage blades, but for the impatient or careless you really can destroy a knife. I picked up the EP used but with the Chosera stones 400, 600, 800, 1k, 3k, 5k, & 10k. If the you work your sharpening progression through every grit on the EP then you have a MUCH MUCH MUCH more refined edge than what you can get from the standard KO WSKT set-up. That being said I added the blade grinding attachment to the KO and with the different belts offered for this attachment you can come close to what you can get from the EP but much quicker, but there is a learning curve and you can still wear the knife down much faster than you intend if not very careful and there is always the risk of overheating the blade and damaging the blade temper. Honestly from all I have read I think the next doodad that I will get for sharpening will be the Wicked Edge Pro Pack II. I have read many reviews that claim that the diamond stones work much faster than the EP, achieve as good or better than the same edge, and you don't have to worry about the potential risk involved with the WSKT systems. JMHO and you will find that the sharpening debate is as controversial as the blade steel debate or the caliber debate if you happen to also be pro gun. Happy Hunting!

thanks! looks like I'll just stick with the EP for now then maybe look into the Wicked Edge!

I use a 1x30 belt sander for sharpening (really, more for fixing or setting an initial bevel).

Any time you introduce a power tool, you can mess up quicker. A bad pass on a stone won't do near as much as a bad pass on a belt sander. Of course, mine is running dast, and is none too smooth.

It sure the heck beats re profiling a large chopper by hand on sandpaper though.
