convex question of comparison

Greetings. I have converted a large chopper from a v edge to convex. I am using sandpaper/mouse pad and then strop with gray and then green compound. It feels sharp when I am finished and will push cut multiple layers of news print and phonebook well but for some reason I cant get it to shave hair like the old v grind. I would appreciate any ideas on how I might improve this as I am always trying to get it sharper. I still love my edgepro for alot of things but would like to get this convex thing down.

It sounds like you are using to much preasure during stropping. It can round over the edge making it feel sharp but like you are experiencing it will not shave.

I second the pressure idea. It does not take much pressure at all. If the blade weighs very much you should not have to push down at all. Just let the blades weight do the work. If it does not weigh much then at most push down as if you were shaving in the morning.

Yes, go back to 1000 work your way to 2000 then re-strop.
