hey guys. I have been doing a lot of research about Bark River knives, especially the aurora and Nebula. I can't decide which one to go for, so a little help from you guys would be great! I want to know which is stronger, and good for EDC. The aurora is full exposed tang and A2 steel. The Nebula is hidden tang, and has what BR calls a "convex/scandi" grind in 12c27 stainless. How good or bad is a grind like this to sharpen and maintain? I have a convex grind BR already and i love it, but never heard of anything like this. I hope you guys will be able to tell me the difference between sharpening these two grinds, and which one you guys would go for. oh, and if the A2 gets patina over time, can i get it back to being shiny, or is this permanent? I don't have any A2 blades yet. Thanks so much for all of your patience.

i tried looking up the knife you mentioned to see exactly what the convex-scandi grind was. to me it doesnt sound much different than a regular convex grind but added to a scandi grind knife. i dont think there would be much difference in the two. i would just go with the convex grind. as for the patina, just keep the blade oiled down and if it starts to get a patina just rub it with some 0000 (fine) steel wool.

i have had the nebula, the "convex/scandi" is really just a low convex. you sharpen it like a normal convex, but maybe at a slightly higher angle.

the patina on A2 can be polished off, but it isn't necessary. if you are worried about discoloration or rust, go for the stainless. having used both A2 and BRKT's stainless, i have found that the common statement saying they behave similarly performance-wise is quite true.
