I have made a leather strop out of a piece of wood and a leather belt, but where can I get stropping paste/compound? Also, do I need several strops for different compounds or can I wipe one off and put another on? Thanks for the help.

You can't really wipe one off and put another on, so the best bet for various compounds is another strop (or a piece of leather glued on the back side of the first). But..... you might find that one or two different compounds is more than enough.

I use green and white. I've bought the green at Woodcraft for about $6.95.

The white I got at either Lowes or Home Depot, in the Tool section, grinding and sanding, in small round tubes. This stuff I use on the grinder with a Muslim wheel. The other white I use on a leather strop - it's Thiers Issard and it's a tad more coarse than the green chromium oxide.

DLTTradingCompany sells a black and green kit. The black is more coarse than green, and probably more so than white. I've never used it, but I'd like to try some.

You can get compounds rather cheaply at Texas Knife supply, Hawkins Knife SUpply, KnifeKits, North Coast knives, etc.

Here's my setup. Green strop on the left, white Thiers Issard on the right:

Here's what you can get at Woodcraft (except for the Thiers Issard):
