Convex sharpening

A convex grind is my favorite and in my opinion the most useful grind of all. I am not very good at sharpening knives, but I do find a convex edge easiest to maintain, probably because the angle does not matter as much. That is a good sharpening method that you should get good or great results from with practice.

i recently convexed for the first time. I did it for my kukri, its very hard to get a good angle on it using a gatco/lansky type system. It's not ridiculously sharp but it is a utility edge

I've started to convex sharpen all of my knives. Many people like it because it's more forgiving with the soft backing. One of the most common problems that people have when they first try it is that they use too much pressure on the knife and round the edge over. Give it a try on a cheap knife and see how you like it. If you don't it isn't that hard to change back to a V edge. A good place to find high grit wet/dry sandpaper is at an auto parts store.

It can also be done on a belt sander using the slack part of the belt. However, I would recommend you try it by hand first to see how it works for you.

You can build on that utility edge by stropping it. That will leave you with an edge I think you'll be quite happy with. Stropping works miracles on a convex edge.
